Following on from our blog in June titled – Nokia The Return we’ve been using the Nokia 1 Plus and Nokia 4.2 to see how they perform day to day tasks.
The team at Linkit Communications we were really looking forward to setting the phones up, loading our information onto them and playing with these competitively priced Nokia Smartphones which both run on the Android Operating system.
Look and feel
Both the 4.2 and 1 Plus come in pretty basic boxes and you’ll find the usual accessories inside, a USB cable for charging and data transfer, a usb wall plug and a ‘Quick start guide’. The Nokia 4.2 comes with a tiny pin to help you remove the sim card tray on the side of the unit. Unlike the 1 Plus, the 4.2 is a sealed unit so no need to remove the back and insert both the sim and battery like you do on the 1 Plus.
The Nokia 4.2 weighs 168g compared to 139g on the 1 Plus and you’ll certainly notice the difference when you pick both up at the same time; the 4.2 does feel a lot nicer to hold, its glass rear gives it a premium feel specially compared to the 1 Plus which has a plastic removable back.

Performance
You will notice the difference between the general speed and performance if you have both the Nokia 1 Plus and 4.2 together. The 4.2 benefits from a Snapdragon 439 chipset vs the Mediatek 6739 and its also has double the 8GB ROM/1GB RAM that you get on the Nokia 1 Plus.
Conclusion
Its no surpirse that the Nokia 4.2 is a ‘better’ phone than the 1 Plus, its should be, it costs £60 more! Having said that, we did find the Nokia 1 Plus to handle basic smartphone tasks very well. The battery lasted a good few days without charge, call quality was fine, sending and receiving emails was painless so all in all, its a good phone for the price point. We do feel the Nokia 4.2 is certainly worth strongly considering over the 1 Plus mind you, the crisper displays, camera and general feel does make a difference.
We think both devices are ideal for businesses looking to deploy mobiles and conscious of budget.
